Become a Volunteer!

If you are interested in history, the American Revolution, or the Colonial period, consider volunteering for Rockingham Historic Site. Volunteers are encouraged to choose an area of particular interest to them and are not required to give a designated amount of time. These volunteers in the picture to the right are taking a break from building the fence at Rockingham.

Why does Rockingham need me?

Rockingham has a very small staff. The site relies on a strong volunteer base to maintain its programs and presence in the historic and local community.

What does a volunteer do?

Volunteer projects include:

  • program development
  • research
  • fund-raising
  • conservation
  • public relations
  • donating suitable pieces of fine art and rare antiques for the collection
  • working on the clothing collection
  • cataloguing the collection
  • operating or working at the Museum Store
  • leading tours
  • hosting events such as the Holiday Candlelight Tour and other programs
  • handiwork and site maintainence
  • re-enacting the Berrien family, owners of Rockingham during Washington’s stay
